VALIS I / MUGEN SENSHI VALIS (RIOT
/ TELENET JAPAN)
SUPER CD-ROM2 (JAPANESE VERSION)

|
Itīs worthy to mention some curious things about this PC-ENGINEīs Valis I version, before I start to comment about the game itself. Though itīs chonologically the first game in the series (MSX), Valis I was the last one to be released on the PC-ENGINE, after Valis II, III and IV. Besides, itīs the only game in the series released on Super-CD format (the others were CD-ROM2 games).
You might be thinking: "Hey, if Valis I was the last one to be released and, even better, as a Super-CD game, it might be fantastic!!". Unfortunately, this is not what happened. For some mysterious reason, Riot / Telenet really made an awful job, making of Valis I a mediocre game. |

One of the most important features you expect from a Super-CD game is amazing animes, since the System Card 3 has a greater amount of memory to storage data. If we take into account the amazing job made by Telenet on the other Valis games, no-one could expect less than amazing animes, to left us all speechless. Well, unfortunately, theyīre really bad, most of them on tiny little screens, with a crude design and bad animation. The cinemas on Valis I are actually quite embarassing. :( |

Graphics along the game itself arenīt good as well, and canīt really be compared to the ones on Valis III or Valis IV. Yuko is thin as a rail and disjointed, with a totally different look from Valis III, for example. At least the gameplay isnīt bad, musics and sound FX are also nice. Anyway, itīs not enough for a game that, definitely, didnīt deliver what it
promised.

Valis I is a disappointing game. It seems that Telenet made it in a great hurry, just to catch some extra money from ardent fans. |
